The world famous and most photographed beauty spot of Slovenia is Lake Bled. The district is picture perfect with the lake, island church, castle and towering Julian Alps creating a stunning panorama.

Bled Castle is one of the oldest castles in Slovenia.  It dates back to 1011, when Henry II, King of Germany first granted the land to the bishops.  The castle courtyard offers breathtaking views of the Gorenjska region which is tucked between the mountains ranges of the Karavanke and Julian Alps.

Bled is a sight that will linger long in your memory well after your visit. Its iconic steeple church perched atop the tiny rock island in the middle of Lake Bled displays an almost fairy tale like scene. The town has long been a destination for those seeking a relaxing spa experience that is enhanced by sunny alpine air and thermal springs; perfect for a welcoming finish after a day of golf, mountain trekking, or horseback exploring.

You will be rewarded with peace and gorgeous light when you take an early morning walk around the lake. Another highlight is the short boat ride to the island in the middle lake and the 99 steps up to the church. From there the views are stunning.

There are many lovely accommodation styles in Bled, for me a room with a view of the lake and castle is a highlight.  Bled is also known for its cuisine and you can’t get much better than dining at the castle with its terrace and view straight from a postcard – what a relief that the food is also good.

Bled is a great a base for day trips to Lake Bohinj, Vintgar Gorge, Radovljica and Kropa.

Put simply, Bled and its surrounds are beautiful beyond words – romantic and timeless it is a little corner of paradise!

Whatever you decide to do, I know you will enjoy your stay as much as I did in this stunning location!
