The Villa Spalletti is like a slice of Tuscany located in the centre of Rome. Conveniently just across from the Quirinal Gardens and the Presidential Palace, the neo-classical mansion has been the family home of the Spalletti Trevelli family since 1901. In 2004 the villa was converted into a small luxury hotel.

The impressive heavy timber entrance doors open up onto a marble stairway which leads you through to the elegant lounge, library and dining rooms. Each room is furnished in a rich display of contemporary fabrics, family antiques, framed collections of old maps, prints and portraits. The teak parquet floors are covered with beautiful rugs and tapestries adorn the walls. First impression just take your breath away. Villa Spalletti may be just a few moments from the Trevi Fountain but it is a world away from the hubbub of busy Rome.

The villa is an intimate hideaway with just 15 bedrooms and gives guests a taste of aristocratic grandeur. Villa Spalletti is unique among the historic residences and is more of an experience than a hotel. The villa experience provides you with a taste of how the Roman nobility lived in the early 20th century.

A beautiful feature of the villa is its formal garden which is a gorgeous space for relaxing with a cool drink after a hectic day of sightseeing. Another great choice to relax and cool down is on the rooftop garden with lounges, sun shades, bar and jacuzzis – the perfect place to be as the sun sets over the eternal city.

The villa is the perfect base for exploring Rome by foot.  Alan and I spent a wonderful four hours with a local guide exploring some of the more out of the way sights and soaking up some of the local charm of this fascinating destination.

I could have stayed for a week or even a month!
