The highlight of my visit to Croatia would have to be the small ship cruise of the Dalmatian coast. The sparkling blue waters and golden beaches are as enchanting now as they were when I first visited back in the 70’s. I spent many wonderful days backpacking this beautiful region when it was still called Yugoslavia.

In those backpacking days I couldn’t afford a cruise so it was a treat to join the Aloha Princess on a four day cruise from Dubrovnik to Split. We visited stunning islands, ancient walled harbours and enjoyed many shore excursions into the pristine wilderness of the Adriatic coast.

The towering walls of the ancient city of Dubrovnik, Marco Polo’s house in Korcula and the historic site of Diocletian’s massive castle in Split are just a few of the fabulous sites we visited. At the national park on Island Mjet we crossed the lake to visit the monastery. In Hvar we had an

unforgettable fish dinner and the following morning travelled to the gorgeous Island of Bol.  There was even time for a refreshing dip in the cool crystal clear sea.

The Aloha Princess has 18 comfortable cabins with ensuites and a fabulous sun deck from where you could enjoy the beautiful coastal scenery.  The compact size of the vessel was ideal for getting into the smaller harbours and secluded bays.

The trip was a great way to enjoy Croatia at a relaxed pace and only have to unpack once. This is one of the pleasures of cruising. There is such an amazing choice of cruises these days. Ships range in size from the small ships like the Aloha to mega sizes that have 2,700 cabins and twenty dining options.
