I had the pleasure of visiting Holland America’s Noordam whilst she was moored in Sydney.  After the ship inspection our group enjoyed a delicious lunch on board and the only trouble was I had to leave the ship before she set sail for Auckland.

The Noordam is the last of the fleet to be refurbished which is scheduled for later this year. Although some areas are little tired and the furnishings somewhat dated, she is still one elegant lady.  In fact I loved the timber chairs and colour scheme.

Noordam is a medium-sized Vista-Class ship which accommodates 1,972 guests.  With a generous 2 to 1 guest-to-crew ratio there was always a friendly, smiling crew member ready to take your order or help you in some way.

The ship is spacious and best described as traditional. A big feature of the Noordam is the vast array of museum-quality art featured throughout the ship.  The stunning mid-ship atrium which towers three decks high is topped by a rotating Waterford Crystal globe of the world while beautiful exterior glass elevators provide fabulous ocean views.

There are fresh flowers everywhere!  Holland America pride themselves on this attention to detail and the gorgeous flower arrangements throughout the public spaces are a very lovely touch.  There was even a beautiful bonsai in the Navigator Lounge.

The Noordam features two outdoor swimming pools, one with a retractable sliding glass roof that can be closed when the weather isn’t great or if the temperature drops and there are plenty of deck chairs to relax on.

The Greenhouse Spa & Salon is a favourite spot on the ship.  The large thermal pool, ceramic heat beds and tropical shower are an absolute treat to enjoy.  The friendly staff provide spa treatments and a variety of salon services.  There is a daily display of discounted specials on massages and treatments that is worth keeping an eye on.

For those who like to keep fit on holidays there is a large high-tech gym located forward of the top deck with floor-to-ceiling windows featuring fabulous ocean views.  The wraparound teak promenade deck is popular with the walkers on board – on some sea days the Noordam hosts a 9km charity walk which is a great way to get everyone moving for a good cause.

Holland America Line is a premium cruise line with a rich heritage in luxury passenger sea travel, having first crossed the Atlantic in the late 1800s. They have a fleet of 15 ships cruising worldwide, year-round.  The newest ship is the Niew Statedam which was launched in December 2018.

The fleet of mid-sized ships represent the epitome of classic cruising with a contemporary touch – think vintage-style navy blue hulls, wraparound teak decks and impressive art collections, combined with top-class modern dining and entertainment options. The atmosphere is refined and elegant, and Holland America Line has a reputation for exceptional service, attention to detail and authentic Dutch hospitality.
