New Year Travel Resolution

By January 12, 2019 February 13th, 2019 Travel Stories

This year take that once-in-a-lifetime trip. Apparently choosing experiences makes people happier than opting for “stuff”— material things. Research shows that almost a third of us regret not making the decision to take the plunge into the trip of a lifetime.

Looking back at your life so far, what do you regret not doing? Chances are putting off that holiday to your dream destination comes to mind. Make 2019 the year you finally see all the magic the world has to offer. Now is as good a time as any to explore and discover far flung places, learn about fascinating ancient cultures, encounter exotic animals and experience your wildest dreams.

The world is brimming with historical wonders to behold from the sacred Machu Picchu, the ancient gems of Jordan, the cultural landmarks of Laos or the ruins of Greece or Egypt, the list is almost endless.

Perhaps a safari is on your agenda. If you’ve always wanted to give this adventure a whirl but aren’t exactly the outdoor-type, fear not. South Africa is known for its luxury safari adventures. You can catch sight of incredible wildlife including elephants, giraffes, lions and more while still feeling like you’re at a five-star resort. Of course Africa isn’t the only place to carry out an unforgettable safari trip, India stands on its own as a world-class destination.

The best way to really get to know a different culture is through the local cuisine. For devoted foodies their goal is to try the national dishes of every country they visit. Hanging out with locals visiting markets and being creative in cooking schools could be the culinary whirlwind tour of your dreams.

Solo travel is finally getting the attention it deserves these days. The benefits of taking a holiday alone are endless; it turns out the freedom and solitude can do wonders. Whether it’s trekking through the wilderness or exploring a big city, there is a special kind of magic that comes about when you do it on your own.

I think I suffer from Tripophobia; the fear of not having any travel currently booked. Thankfully it doesn’t happen very often and 2019 will be no exception.  I’m always excited about exploring the world and already have ski trip to Canada and a Kimberley cruise booked for this year.

I totally agree with Hans Christian Andersen, ‘to travel is to live’!
